Nature Stories: A Quiet Moment in Purple

I’ll be honest, I don’t even know what this flower is. What caught me wasn’t the name, but the feeling. One day, while my wife and I were out hiking the trails behind the apple orchard near our house, I noticed this single bloom sitting just a little apart from the others. It wasn’t trying to stand out, but it did anyway. The soft purple against the deep green immediately pulled me in. With my camera already in hand, I opened the aperture as wide as I could—f/1.4—to let the background fall away and isolate the flower. I moved around it a bit, trying a few different angles, letting the scene simplify itself. This one felt right. The diagonal line leads your eye in, ending in that small burst of color. With the shallow depth of field, the flower almost feels like it’s floating, suspended in a wash of green. It’s a simple image, but sometimes that’s enough. ✨ Love this image? Add it to your wall.
