Echoes in Steel: Stories in Steel

While photographing the fine detail on this pauldron and breastplate, I was struck by a thought. Maybe these details aren't here just for decoration. Maybe they're telling a story. Looking closely, I can see cherubs, men and other symbols that could probably be interpreted in any number of ways. I imagine the maker chose these specific images and their placement for a reason. Maybe they tell the story of the man who wore the armor, or perhaps they're scenes from a myth or story that would have been immediately recognizable at the time. Honestly, I haven't figured out that story yet. But that's part of what I like about the image. Centuries later, the pictures are still there. I just don't know what they're trying to tell me. Echoes in Steel grew from an opportunity through the Worcester Art Museum Members Council to create photographs for auction at its annual members gala. As a thank-you for that opportunity, and to support the arts, I’m donating 50% of the profits from print sales in this series to the Worcester Art Museum.
