Quiet Baseball - Preparing the Field

Before anything happens, this happens. The field gets reset. Lines are drawn again, even if they were already there. Dirt is leveled, edges are cleaned up, everything brought back to where it’s supposed to be. Not perfectly, but consistently. It’s routine. Repetition. The same process, game after game. Most people never see this part. It just happens for them. By the time they find their seats, it’s already done. But it doesn’t just happen.
It’s laid down on purpose. Every line, every surface, every detail. There’s a whole group of people responsible for it, each doing their part before anything else can begin. Standing there, it feels like the game has already started. Not in the noise or the action, but in the rhythm of it. The preparation is part of the game, even if it never shows up in the box score.
